How to Prepare for Your Cosmetic Medicine Consultation at Tx Bar Geelong

Preparing for a cosmetic medicine appointment is an important step in ensuring a safe and effective experience.

At Tx Bar Geelong, our team of registered healthcare professionals are here to support you throughout your treatment journey.

Below is a guide to help you prepare for your appointment.

1. Book a Consultation

Before undergoing any cosmetic medicine treatment, it is essential to attend a consultation with one of our qualified health practitioners. During this appointment, we will discuss your medical history, goals, and suitability for treatment. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Where a prescription medicine is involved, a consultation with our Nurse Practitioner, Ashleigh Robinson, will be arranged. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assessing suitability and prescribing Schedule 4 (prescription-only) medicines, if clinically appropriate.

2. Pre-Appointment Information

Prior to your appointment, our team will provide you with a confidential medical aesthetics intake form. Please complete this form thoroughly and accurately. This information assists our healthcare professionals in making informed clinical decisions about your care.

3. General Preparation Tips

  • Medication and Supplements: You may be advised to avoid certain medications or supplements that could increase the risk of bruising, such as aspirin, fish oil, and blood thinners. Please consult your treating practitioner before making any changes to your medications.

  • Hydration and Nutrition: Staying well-hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet can support general skin health and overall wellbeing.

  • Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Limiting alcohol and avoiding smoking prior to your appointment may help support the body’s natural healing processes.

  • Sun Exposure: Avoid excessive sun exposure and protect your skin with sunscreen and clothing prior to your appointment. Sunburn may increase the risk of adverse reactions with certain treatments.

  • Rest: A good night’s sleep prior to treatment may assist with recovery and wellbeing.

  • Bring Questions: If you have questions or concerns about the procedure, bring a list to discuss during your consultation.

4. Planning Around Events

If you are planning a cosmetic medicine treatment in the lead-up to a special event, consider the following:

  • Timing: Book your treatment well in advance. Some procedures may take days to weeks to show full results, and temporary side effects such as bruising or swelling may occur.

  • Individualised Planning: Your practitioner will help you develop a treatment schedule based on your goals, timing, and the type of treatment recommended.

  • Follow-Up Appointments: Some treatments may require multiple sessions or follow-ups. Schedule these ahead of time to allow for adequate healing and review.

5. Post-Treatment Care

After your appointment, your practitioner will provide individualised post-care instructions. It is important to follow these guidelines to support your recovery and optimise results. These may include avoiding certain activities, applying recommended skincare, or attending follow-up appointments. You will also receive a copy of your consultation notes for your records.

Important Note

All cosmetic medicine treatments carry potential risks and side effects. Individual results can vary. Your suitability for treatment will be determined by a registered health practitioner during consultation. Any reference to outcomes or benefits is general in nature and not a guarantee of any specific result.

Tx Bar Geelong does not promote or advertise specific prescription products. All treatment recommendations and prescriptions are based on clinical need and must be discussed directly with a qualified health practitioner.
