New TGA advertising guidelines -Tx Bar- Changes

March 28, 2024

From April, if you are searching the internet with words like “Cosmetic injectables Geelong” or “Best cosmetic injector Geelong” or even “Best place for lip filler in Geelong” chances are you will not be able to find this information readily available on our website. Recently some regulations have changed or are being more tightly regulated.

Our team answers some common questions below:

Why can’t Cosmetic clinics use words like “lip filler” or “cosmetic injectables”?

Cosmetic consultations at Tx Bar, are performed by Registered health professionals that is our cosmetic nurses or cosmetic nurse practitioner. In Australia, medications are governed by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Previously the TGA had deemed words like dermal filler, antiwrinkle injections or cosmetic injectables are words that were acceptable in advertising these types of procedures. However, earlier this year the TGA updated their advertising guidelines to say the use of these words would be considered unlawful.

How do I book a cosmetic medicine appointment at Tx Bar now?

As part of the regulation changes, the team at Tx Bar have been working hard to streamline our bookings process and make it as easy as possible to support our patients through these changes. Patients can book a complimentary consultation with one of our Registered Nurses. During this consultation, our team will discuss your concerns, expectations and treatment options, including no treatment at all.

Why does it just say consultation? What if I want treatment on the day?

Cosmetic procedures performed at Tx Bar all require a consultation with one of our nurses to ensure suitability for treatment. Some of our treatments or procedures use S4 medications, which are regulated in Australia. A prescription with our Nurse Practitioner is required for this treatment and is included as part of our consultation process, if applicable. All cosmetic consultation appointments have time allowed for treatment on the day if appropriate.

I want to see some treatment results.  Where are your before & afters?

As part of changes to regulations  the team at Tx Bar are no longer able to advertise before and after images where it is clear that a medication has been used. We would encourage you to book a complimentary consultation with one of our nurses who can show you some before and after images of cosmetic procedures that have been performed at Tx Bar (with the consent of those patients of course!).

I can’t find pricing of cosmetic medicine treatments at Tx Bar?

Medications are often prescribed as part of cosmetic medical treatments, medications are tightly regulated in Australia and we are not able to advertise pricing. Our team discuss pricing upfront and a financial consent is completed prior to any treatment at Tx Bar.

If you have any questions or want to discuss your concerns with ageing please give the team at Tx Bar a call today or book a complimentary consultation with one of our cosmetic nurses.
