What if your blood tests are normal but you still don’t feel well?
You’ve probably heard it before. “Your bloods came back fine.” And while that should be reassuring, it doesn’t always feel that way, especially when you’re still exhausted, still foggy, still not quite yourself.
Standard blood pathology tests are an important and valuable tool investigative tool, but they don’t capture everything. They offer a snapshot of what’s circulating in your blood at a given moment. What they don’t always show is what’s happening at a deeper, cellular level over a long period of time, which is where mineral analysis can assist.
What is hair tissue mineral analysis?
Hair tissue mineral analysis, or HTMA, is a laboratory test that uses a small sample of hair to assess your body’s mineral levels and the relationships between them. Unlike blood, hair reflects what has been happening in your body over a longer period of time usually over the past two to three months making it a useful tool for identifying patterns that a single blood test might miss.
Minerals are involved in almost every process your body performs. Magnesium supports nerve and muscle function. Zinc plays a role in immune health and skin integrity. Copper and iron interact in ways that affect energy and cognition. Calcium, sodium, and potassium influence how your cells communicate and how your adrenal system responds to stress. When these are out of balance the effects can be hard to pin down to one thing in particular.
This is exactly why so many people who feel unwell struggle to get clear answers. The symptoms and the experience you are having are real, but they don’t always translate to standard pathology results.
Who tends to find HTMA useful?
In our experience, the people who get the most from HTMA testing are often those who have been dealing with symptoms for a while without a clear explanation. Persistent fatigue that doesn’t resolve with rest. Brain fog that makes concentration harder than it used to be. Low mood or heightened anxiety without an obvious trigger. Changes in hair texture or increased shedding. Digestive discomfort that comes and goes.
These are also the kinds of symptoms that tend to be dismissed or attributed to stress, age, or lifestyle, which can be incredibly frustrating when you know something genuinely doesn’t feel right.
HTMA isn’t a diagnostic tool and it won’t replace standard blood testing and clinical diagnostic tools. But it can offer a different lens, and sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed to start making sense of what your body has been trying to tell you.
Combining Vitamin therapy with Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis
At Tx Bar in Geelong we have been performing Vitamin therapy services for 10 years. Our current offerings include treatments for Low Vitamin b12 levels and Vitamin infusions for recovery after strenuous exercise, illness or when you are unable to meet your vitamin intake orally. We have seen a number of patients who describe symptoms that are presenting as generalised fatigue or brain fog with normal or near normal pathology results and no clear diagnosis. We want to be able to provide our patients with a holistic service to investigate further!
We’ve introduced HTMA testing at our Geelong clinic in partnership with Interclinical Laboratories, one of Australia’s most established providers of hair mineral testing. All consultations and results reviews are conducted by our Registered Nurses, and everything is tailored to you as an individual.
If you’re just starting out, our single consultation at $300 includes your test, a 15-minute consultation, and a personalised results review. It’s a low-barrier way to get a clearer picture of your mineral status and what it might mean for how you’re feeling.
If you’re ready to take a more structured approach, our 8-week wellness plan at $850 takes things further. It combines your HTMA test and results consultation with a vitamin B12 administration and two customised IV vitamin infusions, each formulated based on your individual results. The plan is spread across eight weeks so your body has time to respond in a sustained, supported way, not just a one-off appointment.
